Machine Learning Engineer Intern - Master’s
CodaMetrix is revolutionizing Revenue Cycle Management with its AI-powered autonomous coding solution, a multi-specialty AI-platform that translates clinical information into accurate sets of medical codes. CodaMetrix’s autonomous coding supports improved patient care and drives efficiency under fee-for-service and value-based care models. We are passionate about getting doctors away from the keyboard and back to clinical care.
Position Overview
We are seeking a self-motivated and experienced Machine Learning Engineering Intern to join our team. This role is ideal for someone pursuing or holding a Master’s in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field — with prior professional experience in Software Engineering or Machine Learning Engineering or Data Engineering.
You’ll work closely with Machine Learning engineers, data scientists and application engineers to accelerate experimentation, translate research prototypes into production, and reduce technical debt. You should be able to operate independently, drive progress with minimal oversight, and deliver high-quality contributions in a fast-moving environment.
Our team primarily works on Databricks (Spark/Delta Lake) and AWS infrastructure to build scalable and production-grade ML pipelines. This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration, including integrating ML models with data science workflows and application layer services to ensure smooth and reliable end-to-end user experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with researchers to build, evaluate, and productionize Machine Learning artifacts
- Help clean up or refactor legacy systems and pipelines to improve maintainability, performance, and cost efficiency
- Contribute to the development of robust, end-to-end ML workflows on Databricks, including feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and deployment
- Design and maintain scalable data pipelines using Spark and Delta Live Tables
- Support monitoring, alerting, and CI/CD workflows for ML systems
- Work with AWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, ECS, Sagemaker, etc.) as needed to integrate ML capabilities into broader systems
- Collaborate across engineering, data, and product teams to iterate on prototypes and deliver results in production
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pursuing or completed Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience in ML engineering, software engineering, or data engineering
- Proficiency in Python and common ML frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, spary-nlp)
- Working knowledge of Spark or distributed compute frameworks
- Hands-on experience with distributed computing, ML experimentation, and pipeline management
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
Beneficial Experience:
- Previous exposure to healthcare data, medical terminology, or regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA)
- Experience working with EHR data, clinical notes, or coding systems (ICD, SNOMED, CPT, etc.)
- Building ML models and integrating them into real-time or batch production systems
- Familiarity with ML Ops best practices (e.g., model serving, MLflow)
- Strong focus on code quality, testing, and long-term maintainability
- Familiarity with Databricks and AWS services and DevOps tooling (Terraform, Docker, etc.)
